Jockey Slut, September 2003 - Toolshed EP Review
|
by Chris Blue |
| It seems like leftfield, once defined by being kooky and different,
is an idea desert these days (if we hear one more Four Tet knock off…).
It could be because Graham Massey of 808 State has nicked all the new
ideas for his Toolshed project – there’s more going on here than a year’s
worth of folktronica (argh, that name!), be it the punk-meets-Star Trek
theme of ‘Pazuzu’, the Hammond organ cod-rock of ‘Marbles’ (The Darkness,
pah!) or the nerve-y ‘Nananananaanaa’. Toolshed – putting the ‘left’
back into leftfield. |
